Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a test for partners in committed relationships who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 recently had its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it may seem like standard biological terror, but beneath Together resides a deep examination about how we choose to love each other.

A Directorial Debut Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together represents the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The story commences when the couple relocate from the metropolis to the rural area for her career. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the two fall into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the duo. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying horror experience, blending moments of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes amidst something horrific). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is only the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together avoids making either of his characters the obvious villain.

The couple face the type of challenges that are inherent in long-term unions a decade in. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the symbolism never feels clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your significant other and utter, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience right now.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform now.
